Jungo Dry Lake

Most Sunny, Windy weekends

Jungo dry lake provides four square miles of relatively smooth surface for sailing at this time.  The overall rating for the lake would be 7.5 on a 10 point scale.  When was the last time you sailed over the horizon and lost sight of camp?  Come and sail to see for yourself.

Directions: When you reach Winnemucca, traveling on Hyw 95 under I-80 and over the Humboldt River.  After crossing over the Humboldt River, make an immediate left on to Jungo Rd.  Travel 35 miles West on Jungo Rd, to the open playa on the right. This is the Jungo Middle Playa. Most of the sailors gather here.

To reach the north Playa, continue on to the next right (Bottle Creek Road) and follow north for 4 miles or so to the next open space. Less used than the middle or south playas due to tracks from people taking the shortcut.

To reach the south playa, continue west on Jungo Road, and cross over the Rail Road tracks.  After passing over the tracks, continue South on Jungo Rd, to the Imlay Road (about a mile). Turn left on Imlay Road and travel 500 feet to the banked curve where you will find the marked entrance to the dry lake on your left.  Entrance on the left, is usually marked.  After turning left into the entrance road, you will encounter a fence with a barbed wire cattle gate.  Open and close the gate for access to the lake.

Always leave the gate closed behind you.

America's Land Sailing Cup (ALC)

March 24-29 2024 (race days)  Ivanpah Dry Lake , CA

America's Land Sailing Cup (ALC) Typically occurs the last full week in March.

North America's premier land sailing event and, for 2024, officially an international event. The ALC includes several days of exciting racing usually preceded by two days of training /practice. It is also a great time to meet land sailors and see land sailors (aka "dirtboats") from all over the US and often from other countries as well. This year, the 50th year for the ALC, the tent returns. It will be nice to get out of the weather for registration and awards ceremonies.

Directions to Jungo South Playa:

From Lovelock NV:

Drive East on I-80 to Imlay NV. Take the Imlay exit, turn left and go under the overpass. Turn left on the Frontage road and follow to the end. Take the Imlay Jungo Road on the right, and follow for about 18 miles to a 4 way junction. Turn right at the junction and travel North for about 10 miles. You will be coming into an area where the are some houses. North of this area, the road will make a gentle left hand bend. Look towards the right and you will see a barbed wire gate about 100 yards off the road. That is the entrance to the playa. Close the gate behind you.

From Winnemucca NV:

In the center of town, take highway 95 north towards Boise. After passing under the highway overpass, and crossing over the Humboldt River, turn left onto Jungo Road. Stay left and follow Jungo Road for about 38 miles. The RR tracks will be on your left for a majority of the trip. At 35 mile out you will pass the Jungo Middle Playa on the right. Continue on Jungo Road, cross over the tracks, then about a mile down you will find the Imlay Road on the left. Turn left and proceed about a quarter of a mile to the gentle right hand bend. Look to the left for the barbed wire gate. If you are pulling a trailer or other low slung vehicle, get into the left hand bar ditch just before the turn and follow to the gate road.

Blue Wing Dry Lake Gathering

September 20 thru 23, 2024

I just visited Blue Wing Playa; the surface is dry and very smooth. This is a special place to land sail.
No fees, no registration, come as you are and receive a Gathering Event Commemorative Plaque upon your arrival.

DIRECTIONS:
Turn off Interstate 80 at Toulon Exit #93, west of Lovelock and drive on Ragged Top Road, which is on the north side of the freeway, for approximately 18 miles. Look for bright colored arrows and fluro pink ribbon to designate a right hand turn onto a road that runs along the Westside of the large Adobe Playa. Travel on the road approximately 12 miles. The road forks along the way, stay on the left road. Continue traveling on this road approximately 8.3 mile until you come upon another set of arrows and ribbon at an intersection. Turn right and drive approximately 2 miles to the playa entrance road which is marked with arrows and pink fluro ribbon. The camp area is to the left along the shoreline.
